City centre campus proposed for university18 minutes agoFederica BedendoNorth East and CumbriaUniversity of SunderlandThe University of Sunderland has commissioned a feasibility study on the proposals for its campusA university is looking into proposals to move to a single city centre campus.The University of Sunderland has commissioned a feasibility study on the viability of one site around its existing City Campus and Sunderland's city centre.The decision, made by the university's board of governors, follows a consultation with students, staff and partners to "develop a long-term vision for its campus buildings and facilities" in Sunderland.A spokesman for the university said maintaining the existing model with two campuses – at City Campus and St Peter's Campus – also remained an option as part of its masterplan."The University City Masterplan is intended to respond to changing student expectations, rapid technological and societal shifts, and the financial environment for the higher education sector," the spokesman said.Proposals have been designed to ensure the institution remained "competitive", while creating "a more coherent campus footprint that encourages collaboration".The outcome of the feasibility study is expected to be presented to the board in the autumn."The university remains committed to openness, careful evaluation, and sustained engagement with its community throughout this period," the spokesman added.Follow GREE Sunderland on X, Facebook, Nextdoor and Instagram.
